  • Time to Come Clean

    I think
we’ve known each other long enough now that I can come clean on something – I
don’t like being clean. To me, hygiene is a waste of time. Sure, every day I
frantically scrub myself down before I leave in the morning. Fine, I brush my
teeth after meals, wash my hands before them, and clean everything in-between
on a fairly regular basis, but the point here is I don’t like to.

Maybe so, but I don’t have to like it.

    To me,
hygiene is a terrific hassle. For some reason, I never got that habit-making
gene (even doing something every day for three weeks does nothing to me – damn
you, Oprah!) and every time I shower it’s a conscious struggle. Brushing teeth
is the same. Annoying, time consuming, and just plain uncomfortable. I don’t
know about you, but I don’t like to be cold, sopping wet, and late for work. It
bothers me. (And things may be different for you tropical Xangans, but it’s
cold here pretty much all the time.)

    I tell
you, if I could swing it I’d bathe maybe once a month, whether I needed it or
not. Luckily for the rest of you, however, I’ve got too much of a social
conscience for that to happen. I just can’t let the rest of society suffer so
that I might be happy. So, every day I continue to wash, annoying as it might
be, all the while wishing I lived in the middle ages. Well, except for that
    plague stuff.

  • Where are those waterless showers that sci-fi shows used to promise us! Science fiction lets us down once more.

  • I like washing. I always enjoyed baths and showers. I like washing dishes and consider it quite zen. I guess I like being in water without the danger of drowning. Hygiene can be fun!

  • I know what you mean, man.

I shower 2-3x a day, do the whole brushing/ washing thing but I wish I didn’t have to. If I could just hit a button and have the whole process done permanently at once, I would. People think I’m OCD and I enjoy scrubbing myself down to remove germs or something, but I don’t. It’s hot when I sleep = shower in the morning. I sweat profusely when I work out = shower after workout. I need to clean the grime off of me at night = shower at night.

  • I’m with you. Brushing my teeth is a hassle, i hate doing it i really do i’m the same with washing my hands…i don’t do that as often as i should. Idk with showering though, sometimes it can feel like a hassle like if i’m tired or something like that, but I like that “just cleaned” feeling and plus i don’t have too much of a choice, my hair gets greasy really fast haha.

  • I haven’t taken a shower in nine days.

    Join the revolution!

  • I hate the task of it, but at the same time realize the importance!

  • Are you by any chance of the MALE species? Because if you are….get over it!! No one wants a smelly, unhygenic person, much less a smelly unhygenic male. (Especially if the person on the recieving end is of the female persuasion…hee-hee)

  • @armnatmom -

heh, I did point out that while I might not like hygiene, I don’t avoid it either.

  • hahaha

    @kidzandK9z -

    You said it perfectly..

  • For me, I’m not a habit-making person either. I could brush my teeth everyday for a year, but if I forgot even once, the habit would end.

  • And….its probably a gud thing you’re not a female….we have lots more to do than you men. Can you imagine adding to the normal, everyday cleaning process? ha ha ha

  • @armnatmom -

Not sure what you mean. Lots more to do in general, or to do with hygiene? If the latter, why do you say that? I’ll point out that the only body part to be generally regarded as self-cleaning is only on the female.

  • @NikBv - ”self cleaning?” you make it sound like we’re an oven! lol Never really thought of “IT” as self cleaning. What i was referring to is what women will go through to look nice. We have more to shave than men, make-up to adorn the face, our hair is NOT wash and dry, we scent our bodies with more than just deodorant and we carefully pick out what we’re going to wear….get the picture now?

  • @armnatmom -

I understand all of that, but that isn’t really hygiene, that’s vanity. Hygiene is cleaning. Shaving, applying make-up, picking out an outfit, isn’t.

  • @NikBv - with women, it is. when we shower and clean up, the vanity comes with it..its all part of the process. Why wuld we seperate it?

  • @armnatmom -

Some women choose to make it part of the process. That still doesn’t make it anything but vaguely related to hygiene, though. Just because I eat breakfast after I finish sleeping doesn’t make breakfast part of the sleeping process.

  • I have some friends who only bathe once a month to save water. It’s good for the environment.

  • @NikBv - thats different….who eats immediately after getting out of bed? Most people wait a bit before they eat. However, I do see your point. still think its part of the process WHEN IT COMES TO FEMALES…

  • I HATE brushing my teeth….but face it, the alternative is no fun.

  • lol i shower more than once a day a lot of times

  • NikBv, this subject is causing quite a stink?

  • I’m a compulsive hand washer, in the clinical sense of the word. I’m getting therapy to help me stop. I just cannot relate. I find the process of cleaning very therapeutic and relaxing, but also it drives me crazy NOT to engage in those activites. I wish I could live in your state of mind for a day. My therapist would be elated!

  • Oh I love the fresh, smelling scent of squeaky clean.

  • I think it’s such a hassle to shower too! I get away with showering every two days in the winter (sometimes three) but it’s impossible during the summer. I really wish we didn’t sweat so much.

  • hahaha. I can’t say I hate hygiene, but gosh, I hate tidying/cleaning my room.

  • Thank you very much for not following your heart on this one. Think of those around you. I have thought it would be nice if people didn’t have to shower so often. It took longer for people to get dirty and need a shower.

  • This is true; clean hands save lives, unfortunately so much people prefer to ignore the tip and waste their time buying crap like viagra without prescription or videogames, but they don’t take time to think abvout real important things.
